The students seem very happy with their new school

India lives in her villages. However, the rural populace, though energetic, continues to be deprived of the benefits of the country's rapid economic progress. The main cause for this is the lack of educational facilities. Basic education, which is essential for survival in the modern world, is unavailable in remote areas.

This was the case in the holy village of Chitrapur, the seat of the Shri Chitrapur Math. Located near Shirali in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, this rural hamlet was until recently served by a single Government Primary School, imparting education up to Standard VII. After completing their schooling up to this level, children had to look elsewhere for higher studies. Many were forced to drop out as the High Schools are located at far off places. Moreover students hailing from poor families could not afford the additional burden.

In order to help these children HH Srimat Sadyojat Shankarashram Swamiji of Shri Chitrapur Math readily conceded to theThe children assemble at the start of the day. requests of the residents of the village for starting a High School in the village. Land belonging to the Math was allocated for this project and many of the devotees of HH Swamiji came forward to provide financial support for this noble cause. The Kulkarni Foundation of Dr. Ashok Kulkarni, USA has generously borne the entire expenses of the building construction. Named Srivali High School, the institution started functioning after obtaining permission from the Government of Karnataka. Formally inaugurated in April 2004 by HH Swamiji, it imparts education from 8th standard upto matriculation.

A class in progress    Situated close to the Government Primary School, 120 students enrolled themselves in the very first year in the 8th standard in this School. Subsequently, in the later years the 9th and 10th standards too were added.  The current strength of school is more than 370. With the help of the generous contributions made by donors and sponsors, the School has been able to establish the basic infrastructure like building, furniture and equipment.

With the growing demand for admissions each year, we propose to shift science laboratory and computer education rooms to adjacent building shortly, which would require about Rs.40 lacks for civil construction.  This extension will also house Samvit Sudha wing of the Trust.  Once this extension is constructed, we can have additional division for each class in the main building and we will require additional teachers as we go forward.

The education imparted in the School is completely free and no fee is collectedThe students say a prayer before partaking of their meal for the parents. The facilities provided include free uniforms, books and mid-day meal for all students. Now with the school poised for a three-fold increase in student strength, the additional expenses thus incurred too have to be provided for.

The project of establishing the School has been taken up under the auspices of the Srivali Trust, a charitable Trust of which HH Swamiji is the President. The Trust plans to build a corpus fund to finance on-going operating expenses. School has estimated cost to be at of Rs. 35 lakhs..

This child has dreams to achieve and she knows the way to reach her goal!   We solicit your whole hearted contribution to this noble endeavour and help us to realize the vision of HH Swamiji for building an enlightened and prosperous community.
